Dual Listed-placed AMBIENTE AMIGO delivered a standout performance to land her first black-type victory in the Listed Nottinghamshire Oaks last Tuesday. Ridden by Harry Davies, the talented filly showed an impressive turn of foot to secure victory by half a length. This significant milestone in her career will boost her paddock potential in time, however she will be aimed at further Listed races this term and try her hat in Group company to further enhance her page. This win represents the 40th win of the Flat season so far for her Newmarket-based handler, with plenty of the season left to boost this bounty further.
Last week also saw the first of the season's Classics with the Guineas meeting on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket. Having only started training Flat horses last year, James saddled last term's Gr.2 Royal Lodge winner and Gr.1-placed WIMBLEDON HAWKEYE to face the starter as his first Classic runner in the Gr.1 2,000 Guineas. Coming into the race off a runner-up finish in the Gr.3 Craven Stakes over the same course and distance, the three-year-old son of KAMEKO put in a game performance to finish fifth and remains an exciting colt for the future.
Jenny Owen also notched up a trio of winners over the weekend with ARAMAX and RAGNAR LODBROK both getting up for the Whiskey & Water Partnership under stable jockeys Alex Chadwick and Conal Kavanagh respectively. Meanwhile the THE BIG LENSE also delivered at Mollington yesterday under Rupert Stearn for a two and a half-length victory.
